Precise empowerment, LEAD Measurement's application of three-dimensional coordinate measuring machine in the field of worm manufacturing

A worm refers to a gear with one or more spiral teeth that meshes with a worm wheel to form a staggered axis gear pair. Its indexing surface can be a cylindrical surface, a conical surface or a torus surface. There are four types of Archimedean worms, involute worms, normal straight worms, and conical envelope cylindrical worms.

A worm transmission consists of a worm and a worm wheel, which is used to transmit motion and power between staggered axes. Usually, the staggered angle between the two axes is 90°. In general worm transmissions, the worm is the active part. Worm transmissions are widely used in industries such as automobiles, aerospace, machine tools, and precision instruments for their efficient and stable transmission characteristics. Therefore, the detection results of the tooth profile deviation, lead deviation, adjacent pitch deviation, and cumulative pitch deviation of the worm are very demanding.

The FLY series CMM of Lead Measurement is equipped with PH10 automatic rotating probe head and trigger probe. It also uses Visual DMIS measurement software independently developed by Lead Measurement. It can provide a variety of special modules to improve measurement efficiency, timely detect and correct deviations in the production process, effectively reduce the defective rate, improve production efficiency, reduce costs for customers and increase benefits.

Detection process
1. Use a special measuring fixture to fix the worm

2. Set the relevant parameters of the worm

3. Generate the measurement path with one click to accurately measure the tooth profile deviation, lead deviation, adjacent pitch deviation and cumulative pitch deviation of the worm

4. Generate a complete data report with one click

In the field of precision manufacturing, every slight dimensional deviation may have a significant impact on the assembly performance of the product, especially for key transmission components such as worms. The complex helical surface structure of the worm puts forward extremely high requirements for processing accuracy, which also makes its quality inspection a very challenging task. With its excellent measurement accuracy and flexibility, LEAD's three-dimensional coordinate measuring machine has become a powerful assistant in the field of worm quality inspection.
